European Chamber Opera Thailand

European Chamber Opera Thailand is a ASEAN branch of the parent company located in Bangkok, Thailand and operating throughout Southeast Asia. We aim to provide approachable opera to the public and raise the level of opera appreciation in Thailand. In addition, we also provide a voice training program for young local singers to prepare them for an international career. Since our introduction in 2012, we have already produced more than 40 concerts  to private and public audiences throughout Bangkok and Southeast Asia.

Launched in 2012 by Artistic Director Stefan Sanchez, European Chamber Opera Thailand was formed as a response to the need for accessible, viable, and well-sung opera in the Southeast Asian region. The classical music scene in Thailand has never been more vibrant, but this artistic growth in local performances is not reflected by an increase audience understanding. European Chamber Opera Thailand, through its performances and educational programs, aims to provide the solution to this problem.

European Chamber Opera Thailand provides a platform for young Thai opera singers to perform to audiences in Thailand, nurturing their development to become professional opera singers with a successful international career. The uniqueness of European Chamber Opera Thailand is encapsulated in the phrase “From Page to Stage,” an important holistic approach to opera training which guides the talented young opera singers through their journey from the classrooms to European Chamber Opera Thailand stage.

Since our inception, the company has fast become a success story in Thailand and, indeed, worldwide. In the past season we have performed throughout the world, with performances in Bahrain, Karachi, Bangalore, Pakistan, South Korea, Myanmar, and of course, throughout Thailand. Recent local performances include engagements with the Austrian Embassy, the British Embassy, and the Goethe Institute, as well as musical events at the Hyatt, the Rembrandt, the Royal Cliff, the Sheraton, the Mandarin Oriental, and the Shangri-La Hotels. This past August also saw the company’s Gala Concert, “Mozart, Magic, and Musicals” at the Thailand Cultural Center.

     Thailand Young Concert Artists

Thailand Young Concert Artists (TYCA) was founded by Stefan Sanchez, Artistic Director of European Chamber Opera Thailand, to provide training and mentoring to exceptional Thai opera singers who have the potential for international performing careers. By providing these singers with professional training and performance opportunities, TYCA not only prepares local young talent for the international stage, but also brings quality opera and art song performances to a wide public across not only Thailand and Southeast Asia, but throughout the world.

TYCA nurtures young singers through individualized teaching and mentoring. We currently have ten young Thai singers that are enrolled in the program and are receiving regular training. TYCA master courses provide individual tuition at an international level and are designed to improve dramatic and interpretative skills and refine each student’s existing talent. There is a strong emphasis in TYCA for the exploration of a wide range of repertoire, from Italian opera to Spanish art songs, from German lied to popular musical numbers. This encompassing method equips TYCA’s singers with versatility as they develop not only vocal technique and stamina, but also the appropriate stagecraft and acting skills for the various types of repertoire demanded of professional opera singers throughout the world.
